Delaware Nurses Association is piloting a peer support group for nurses in Delaware’s Professional Health Monitoring Program (DPHMP) who have had trouble with alcohol or substance use. Joining with others who have “walked in their shoes” enables recovering nurses to recognize that they are not alone by reducing self-blame and stigma often associated with addiction leading to a more successful recovery.
If you have experience working with substance abuse, facilitating groups, want to help support your fellow nurses, or are personally in recovery, please consider volunteering to facilitate or co-facilitate a peer support group. For more information about the criteria for facilitators, please click here .
Peer support groups are planned to start September 2017. Initial training will be provided to facilitators. Please contact Michele Gamble RN, APRN by August 20, 2017 to volunteer or for more information.
