Continuing Education Approval Process
The Delaware Nurses Association is accredited as an approver and provider of Continuing Nursing Education by the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on accreditation. As a constituent member of the American Nurses Association (ANA), DNA uses the national voluntary system established by ANA. This system is based on a peer review process in which members of the nursing profession, using designated standards and criteria, review and approve educational activities and providers. This process is based on the Scope and Standards of Practice for Nursing Professional Development (ANA 2000).

Nurses look for approved DNA contact hours when making educational activities decisions, and sponsors who undergo the review process demonstrate a commitment to providing excellent programs. Activities and organizations approved by an ANCC approver are recognized by most state licensing boards. Check with your licensure board if you are not sure if they recognize ANCC accredited or approved providers.
For DNA approval and recognition as quality continuing education, certain standards and criteria must be met. An application process assures the program’s content meets these criteria.
The DNA Continuing Education Committee provides a continuing education peer review approval system that complies with the continuing education criteria of the American Nurses Credentialing Center's Commission on Accreditation. The Continuing Education Committee consists of DNA members (peer reviewers) who have advanced degrees and experience in staff development, continuing nursing education and/or formal nursing education. They also have experience and/or certified in a variety of nursing areas.
Approval Submission Process
Applications must be received 45-days prior to the presentation date of the activity and 8-weeks for provider approval. Renewal applications for provider status must be received in the DNA office at least 8 weeks before expiration of the current approval. Late fees are assessed for applications received after the stated time frame. Late Applications are not guaranteed approval regardless of any late fees paid.
Download the appropriate application form below and complete the requested information. The required number of copies (3) of the appropriate application and all attachments must be submitted with the stated processing fee. Please note: Late fees listed on the application apply to applications received by DNA less than the stated time frame. It does not “accelerate” the review process and does not guarantee approval.
