There has been opposition from some members of the Delaware physician community to advance these policies. Physicians have testified at public meetings that APRNs are a risk to the public and unsafe to practice without their oversight. The American Medical Association authored and sent the following letter which was also circulated by the Medical Society of Delaware. Additionally, physicians have emailed their Delaware legislators asking them to oppose HBs 21 & 141, citing the same opinions in the AMA letter.

When faced with opposition, the professional nurse looks no further than our Code of Ethics for guidance. We practice with compassion and respect for every person and continue to advocate for the rights and health of our community. The robust science, expert opinion, and precedent guide us in knowing that these policy advancements will improve the health of Delawareans.
